Vocational Analysis is one of the most useful tools of the horoscope. Using contemporary techniques it is a quick, easy and accurate process to complete.

Historically the family most often prescribed the career the off spring would follow. However, in current times the individual is generally free to find their own way. However, amazingly often people find their way into careers they are ill suited for.

Currently the world market is in a nasty down turn, and many individuals are finding themselves unemployed. This opens an opportunity for those people, as well as anyone looking to re-evaluate their career path, a chance to re-consider their career choice.

The planetary archetypes represent many different dimensions in our lives, but especially they indicate preferences that can easily suggest vocational choice. One of the first considerations is to determine if the individual actually completed a useful course of study. Most usually, developmental tension of the horoscopes’ 9th house ruler will indicate success in achieving educational goals. We live in a society that rewards success with appropriate higher education goals. Discouraging economic cycles can free some individuals to complete courses of study that may open new doors to success.

Our career to some degree defines our life. Often when we make a new social contact, our introduction defines us in terms of career and career goals. People ask what we do, who we are, and about our interests. We respond usually in terms of vocation and vocational choices. Our vocation plays a big part of our lives, and determines our ability to sustain ourselves in a demanding society. Improving one"s employment status also raises one"s social standing.

A short and revealing analysis of ones horoscope can unlock the truth regarding real interests, skills, and life purpose. Of all the planetary archetypes, Pluto is the most difficult and yet the most revealing. Pluto plays an important role in the horoscope of almost all prominent individuals. In some cases it’s placement suggests a drive to be acquainted with other prominent individuals. Individuals with social networking power, highly developed professional skills, drive, and charisma. Association with such prominent individuals can create a bridge of knowledge reaching across a difficult expanse to a new career path. Finding those indications of success in the horoscope can help define an appropriate course of action. A course of action that the Astrologer can suggest.

Vocations can be defined in terms of five broad areas: communications, administrations, the arts, performing, and medical/healing. Planetary archetypes relate to each area, and the interactions within the horoscope help define those preferences. In the simplest terms, Mercury is an ancient representative of the communication process; Saturn suggests administrative skills; Venus aesthetics; Neptune performing and visual representation; and Aquarius and the water signs suggest in so many ways helping and healing.

The interactions between these archetypes and the boundaries in the horoscope in what are referred to as houses and signs, creates a dramatic impression of vocational preference. A story to be analyzed and shared with the student seeking truth regarding their vocational calling.
