The freedom of our being, in the sanctuary of mind, is but a ray of tangible thought in the playground of infinite spirit. Automatic writing is a profound doorway to higher forms of perception.

The phenomenon of automatic writing is accredited to spiritualism (1774) and has been documented to produce messages from beyond the grave, historically famous people such as Francis Bacon and Emanuel Sweedenborg, through the efforts of Judge John Edmonds in the 1850’s.

Accounts of modern automatic writing were first made popular during the early days of Spiritualism in the United States by the Fox Sisters in 1848. The historical accounts of Pearl Leonore Curran, a young woman living in St. Louis, Missouri, 1913, wrote countless messages as dictated from a seventeenth-century Englishwoman by the name of Patience Worth.

The involuntary movement of a hand holding a pencil over a page, of what may have begun with scribbles of mindless expression, is transformed into the linguistic construction of communication with an entity. Considering the altered state of mind, of what is being transmitted, in which lengthy messages and even novels have manifested without concentrated thought, is in itself a phenomena.

Automatic writing remains a mystery to the mainstream intellectual society of science in which there is no evidence of study of its existence. Yet throughout the ages, commendable works of authors, have given credence to an altered state of mind in automatic writing.

Structural methods of automatic writing are popular versions of simply clearing your mind. Many people will begin with a piece of paper and a pencil and doodling page after page of free form scribbling before legible messages are transcribed. It may be argued that rather than spirit communication, it is the authors’ subconscious mind in control.

Perhaps it is the nature of curiosity that propels our logic to dissect the paranormal accomplishments of psychic realms in such works as automatic writing. Or, is it a matter of fearing unknown territories, of what lies beyond the grave.

Searching for these answers may take us into an extensive study in parapsychology. It should also be realized that in any study that we partake, we take into that study our preconceived ideas, prejudices, and viewpoints in accordance with our own personal experiences. Therefore, it may be advantageous to begin our study of automatic writing within ourselves.

The blissful state of nothingness, the joy of just being, that all knowing state of oneness with all there is or ever will be, is the epicenter of spirit communication. Reaching this tranquil state of mind opens channels of thought from every dimension or time frame in existence.

Communicating with deceased loved ones brings closure and aids us to move forward in our lives. Learning from ancient Masters and continuing their works is a gift from the distant past to our current era of reality. Extending our minds into the distant future brings forth dimensions of creativity yet to be explored.

The benefits of automatic writing are as an endless deposition of accumulated knowledge of invariable proportions in our knowledge of time.
