Collectively, we are the most privileged generations of people on this planet, with greater wealth, liberty, and security than at any time before in history. Together we may learn to leverage our extraordinary wealth to end war, famine, disease, poverty, and injustice. However, first, we must liberate ourselves.
Brothers and sisters there is a sickness in this world and it won"t be fixed with anger, fear, or hate. This sickness ruins families. This sickness perverts love. This sickness sponsors tyranny in the name of democracy. This sickness turns the hearts of good men and women against themselves, filling their hearts with self hatred, self loathing, and self abuse.
Only one thing can stand above this sickness. Only one thing can create true justice, and that is our uncompromising unconditional love for every man, woman and child on this Earth, no matter who we are, no matter who they are.
We are all in this mess together, and only together, with our love, compassion, nurture, and respect for each other and for ourselves can we end this sickness.
We can end it.
We can heal it.
Together we can heal our lives and heal this world.
Is there even one person on this earth who can honestly say they love themselves unconditionally?
No, there isn"t.
We have all passed judgments against ourselves; we each keep a tally of the sins that stain our own hearts.
We may be angry that we have been manipulated to hurt ourselves or to hurt our families. We may be angry that we have been tricked into hating ourselves, or the people we love, however, so long as we remain angry we cannot fix the root of the evil in our own hearts that breaks our souls and divides us brother against brother, sister against sister.
We must set our anger aside if we want justice. When we try to create justice out of anger the result is always vengeance and injustice. We cannot create justice by punishing the weak. And truly, our oppressors are weak; they are very weak and very frightened people. But then, it is in the nature of all bullies to be cowards in their secret hearts.
A person"s strength is in their character. A person"s strength is in their heart. We cannot allow false values to diminish ourselves in our own eyes; that is a trick of our oppressors, that is how The Man will always keep us in his pocket, even if we are foolish enough to rise up in arms against him.
The Man is a bully, we all know this. He uses terror and injustice to subvert us to serve him and keep us in his pocket. We all know brothers or sisters who have been politically silenced with murder, brutality, and injustice in the name of the law of the land.
A shining example of the terrorism perpetrated by our own governments, Mumia Abu-Jamal, a courageous, intelligent black journalist, sits on death row today, condemned by our nation"s collective hypocrisy and injustice.
Need we remind you of MOVE? If so, please see our footnote...
We love our brothers and sisters who rally for justice in Egypt and around the entire world, but we also pity them their dreams, for democracy as practiced by perhaps every democratic nation on Earth is still a scam, democracy is just tyranny by the masses over anyone they perceive as different from themselves.
An ill-informed, ignorant majority can never lead us to true unity, love, justice, and peace. If we value these ideals we must liberate our own hearts and minds first. Until then, we can only be reactive agents in a mix of troubles that can be manipulated to further the purposes of our oppressors at our own expenses.
There is too much wealth in this world to allow poverty to continue. Poverty is not a condition of our wallets or our purses. Poverty is a condition of our hearts and our minds.
We can end poverty in our lifetimes.
We can end war in our lifetimes.
We can end injustice in our lifetimes, but we must start now, with ourselves, with the truths and values we hold individually and as societies joined in a common purpose to heal the sickness and create a more utopian world that mirrors our highest ideals and aspirations more perfectly.
The Man has deep pockets, we all know this, because we are all in his pockets together.
Mighty deep pockets.
However, we, the people, are the true wealth of The Man, our lives and souls held subject to his terror and injustice.
But who is The Man?
Officers in uniform are not The Man, the whole idea that our peace officers and law enforcers are our enemies is a myth The Man uses to guarantee we will direct our anger at the wrong targets.
If we change the law of the land our peace officers and law enforcers will follow our guidance and support our causes because we act with true justice, with unconditional love, compassion, mercy, and respect for every man, woman, and child on this Earth.
So who are our oppressors?
It is by our own hearts and minds that we are most oppressed. Fear and ignorance break our unity. Our own fear and ignorance subvert our abilities to effectively organize and educate ourselves. We have been tricked into becoming our own oppressors. When we liberate our hearts and minds from hatred and fear we liberate our world from terror and injustice.
Collectively, we are the only ones who can bring true peace and justice to every man, woman, and child on Earth, starting with ourselves. We create this truth and justice when we choose to always act with honor, respect, mercy, love, and compassion.
When we choose to nurture each other to the best of our abilities we cease to waste our wealth in self destructive pursuits that bring misery and pain to our families, friends, and neighbors.
Some people may choose to believe we are their enemies. We have no enemies other than ourselves. Conquering the inner worlds of our own hearts and minds with unconditional love for who we really are liberates us from the shackles of self deception which hold us powerless to change our world for the better.
We cannot hate those who choose to hate us, for when we choose to hate, our hate strikes at our own hearts first, robbing us of our true humanity. We cannot punish those who in their ignorance have done us wrong, for they are innocent, the victims of their own fears and prejudices.
The Man is not our enemy, only the ways in which we have been tricked into destroying ourselves as individuals and as humane societies might be considered to be anyone"s enemies.
The faces of the people we may perceive as helping to perpetrate this sickness of fear, ignorance, and injustice are the faces of our brothers and sisters, people we must uphold with our love and heal with our mercy, lest we accept their corruption into our own hearts and become like those who oppress us now.
Love, honor, justice, and compassion are virtues that exist in every person"s heart. No one does not know what these things truly are, but we must learn to act with these virtues consistently, in every moment of our daily lives if we wish to heal this world, to make this world a better place for our families, our friends, our neighbors, and ourselves.
MOVE is a somewhat radical political group advocating a back-to-nature approach that may not always seem very practical. MOVE transformed themselves into a more respectable and respectful group, however, they still sometimes failed to respect their neighbors by too loudly broadcasting their political rhetoric at inappropriate times with an in-your-face style.
MOVE genuinely hopes to help build a more peaceful loving world, alas, like too many of us, they were not adequately skilled in the processes of building peaceful coalitions.
Fear and prejudice lead their neighbors to ask the police for help.
On Mother"s Day of 1985 the police dropped a bomb on their house on Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia, burning their home to the ground with seven innocent adults and children murdered. In the process the police also burned an entire neighborhood of 51 homes to the ground.
We were politically allied with MOVE in 1982 through our roles in The Peace and Justice Marching Band and Street Theater Troup, another radical political activist group. We mourn the loss of our leader, Cathy Chang, who immolated herself to death in support of Tibetan Monks being murdered by the Chinese government.
May we all learn from these brutal tragedies so that we may build a more peaceful world in honor of those who have died for human rights, liberty, and justice everywhere.
