It is truly fascinating how as a species, one of our main pursuits in life is Freedom. Whether it be social, economical or even religious Freedom. It defines us, in part at least, as human. Well not really that fascinating ...|
What is really fascinating is that we keep on falling into traps, that claim to offer Freedom, when these traps simply disguise themselves to be that, and actually only turn out to be more constricting and limiting of our Freedom, as individuals and society.
Considering especially the very nature of our social environments, I have come to the conclusion that Freedom is but an illusion, we let ourselves be forced into, or?....
The reality of human life is that freedom can only exist in an environment / society that has no consequences....
Think about that carefully. The moment there is a consequence to an action or a choice, freedom no longer exists. Murder and go to jail..., stop following the faith of your parents and be shunned... Where is the freedom in that?
Extreme examples for sure, however as you are likely aware, our lives in most societies are defined by rules, with consequences if we break them. This is also not just limited to our government imposed structures, but include our social and even religious environments, and in some instances the result of things like peer pressure. You will be shunned unless you behave in a certain way, or act in another.
The real question is how do you really reclaim your Freedom in a society that is essentially social in nature, and as a result automatically terminates Freedom?
How do you live in a society controlled by consequences and still be Free?
Isolate yourself? Mmm, not something I particularly care to do.
Clearly not a simple issue. Though there is one place you can look to find it, or at least some of it. Yourself, and more specifically by looking at the choices that you make throughout your life.
It is interesting that when we think about choices we more often than not consider them as opposing. I will go this way or that... I will join this religious organization or not... I will start this job or not...
And for the most part this is one way in which we at least enact some of the Freedoms we believe we have.. though noting also that we seemingly more often than not, make choices to avoid responsibility for ourselves. Giving away our power (and freedom) so to speak. Allow others, or things other than ourselves to make choices for us, or impose their rules on us.
This also reminds us that there is one other choice we make. ? Not making a choice... Yep that is also a choice. You are choosing not to choose, and in so doing allowing another (circumstance, person, deity, whatever) make the choice for you. Freedom lost....
This really leaves us with only one option. Choose.. Choose.. consciously Choose..
If you exercise your ability to actually make the choice, not just ignore it, not just hope it will go away, but actually choose, no matter what the outcome.. This is when you can start to reclaim your true Freedom. Only this will enable you to be free...
I wish you luck in your pursuit, and invite you to join me in my pursuit of freedom, yeah go ahead make a choice and be free, I dare you...
