The Body - Animal or not?

This again remains a much debated issue. One which has only one answer. In every physical aspect of the human body, we are animals. We have the same physical properties as so-called animals of our planet. We have to eat, we have to sleep, we seek shelter when it rains, we have significant sexual urges and desires.

It is then with this in mind that we have no choice but to concede to our physical nature. There is also another aspect of our existence which follows this animal-like pattern. That of our instincts, or emotions which are controlled by our lower mind. It is again these characteristics that forces us to evaluate whether we are in fact anything more than just animals. This since these lower mind functions are totally focussed on the body, and for the most part we struggle to manage these, if at all.

It is then in this that we also have to consider the fact that our physical bodies, and specifically our lower mind, will continue to enforce this animal nature, simply by forcing control of the body. Our instincts, and emotions so to speak, which are designed to use the survival of your body as an excuse to control you.

Fortunately we have one very important characteristic which makes us different from all other animals. The ability to self analyze. No other animal on this planet is able to do this, as they are basically driven by instinctive needs and desires to survive, from one day to another.

Unfortunately, and as so often is the case, we tend to forget that we are able to self analyze. Then I have to ask if we are any more than just animals. Especially since we not only forget that we can, but also cease to do so. This then results typically in you living out your life on the terms of your lower mind, which then starts to control the way you live, and the decisions you make in your life.

Sadly, yet expected, this seems to be a human condition, being animal-like in nature. You will find that even though most never fully understand this, this is what many spend their entire lives trying to avoid. It is here where I would suggest the difficulty lies. We are living in bodies and an environment which requires us to act in an animal fashion to survive, whilst we are attempting to avoid this condition. A condition of "body mind" controlled auto pilot. Somewhat of a contradiction I would say, and not surprising, one which you will often forget to remember

In conclusion I would suggest that although we are animal-like in this physical body, our very unique ability to self analyze, distinguishes us from the other animals of our planet. And if we start using this ability, we will in fact become more than just another animal, living out it's life. Failure however, to do so will very definitively limit our humanity to being nothing more than just intelligent animals, driven by basic instincts that are no more than animal-like. It is only in true self analysis that we are able to fulfil our human destiny and potential.
