This is probably one of the most fascinating topics ever, especially from a
philosophical point of view. Primarily since the body and soul are usually seen
as being in constant opposition to each other. A rather common and typical view
on this would be that you have to control the body, and overcome the body's
nature in order to create spiritual growth, or at least get in contact with the
soul, so that your soul could be enlightened and "saved". "We
are human after all, and not animals?..."
some research into this rather common way of thinking, I have to say that I
have yet to find a philosophy that can in fact overcome the body. Many will
claim that they are able to do so, and suggestions are made that this will in
fact give you freedom. Yet people tend to die trying, and although sometimes
they are able to overpower the body with some success, total control
over the body (overcoming the body), is not likely. It should be noted
that pursuit of so called spirituality remains a worthy pursuit, but it would
be hard to believe that this can be fully achieved without the help of the
body. This since separation from the body, will likely mean death.
A simple reason for this is that the importance of the body is underestimated
in this whole process. Especially the power that the body yields in the process
of enlightenment. The spiritual gets over-emphasized, whilst attempts are made
to ignore the body. This tends to cause imbalances which in turn create inner conflicts
in a battle for supremacy, between both body and soul. A battle which I can
assure you is not easily lost by the body.
Is it possible to overcome the body?.. The answer is a definitive yes... It is
however only possible, through thorough understanding of the body (and I am not
talking about a biology lesson), and embracing of the body's powers, that you
will be able to sidestep this aspect of yourself. You have one... Accept it, or
you will never get out of conflict....
In order for you to fully grasp this, I would suggest that in this instance you
completely separate the body from the soul. This is to enable us to study this
very interesting aspect of you in depth.
body is simply a grouping of genetic material, which has clumped together in a
specific sequence, to form the body, in a specific shape, size, and with
specific ability. And although the study of human biology, all the way through
to understanding DNA and genes, remains an interesting subject, knowledge of
this is of very little importance at this time.
What is important to understand is what drives the body, keeps it going, and
what impact this will have on your overall life.
foremost the body is a biological entity which is driven by various
scientifically measurable physical universe characteristics. Starting with the
easiest part of the human body.. It is constructed of bone, flesh and blood,
which is dependent on, and has certain requirements, to survive. You have to
eat, and consume liquid. You have to promulgate, and create new bodies, as the
body you are in now has limited life span.
It is then with this in mind that you will, and if carefully considered, find
that the body has merely one single objective. To survive.... I
would suggest you think about this again. The body (forget that you are
occupying the body) simply has one goal, to survive....
I think it may also be important to realize that survival may not mean only
survival of your body, but in fact will go as far as survival of your gene
pool. Your gene pool. I mean if you are able to create offspring, then you have
promulgated your genetic makeup.
It is then with this understanding that you can probably realize the power that
this demand for survival, by your body, will in fact have over your life. In
fact I will go as far as to say, that almost every living organism (including
humans) will prove to have the instinctive desire to survive so powerfully,
that virtually every action taken by that organism will be to promote the
successful survival of the body. There are literally thousands of examples
available which could be used to conclusively prove this. What you need to
realize here however, is the fact that the body is driven to do simply one
thing, survive.. And this drive to survive will cloud everything else that you
Is this in fact a problem which can be solved?.. Again the answer is a
definitive yes. I would however suggest that some more learning may be necessary…
