This is probably one of
the oddest things you have ever heard of. Science.. and ritual magic. Normally
not two words that are mentioned in the same conversation, let alone the same
Surprisingly just because
our modern science has not yet acknowledged the link between the two, does not
mean that there is no link. In fact the link is so profound, that it is
unthinkable to not consider this science of sorts.
To start understanding
the science of ritual magic, does however require acknowledgement of only one
aspect, and that relates specifically to the basic building blocks of our
universe in which we live. Building blocks which have been found and
acknowledged by science, as well as most pagan practitioners for the longest of
- ENERGY -
Yes the entire universe
is basically energy. Everything in it, in some form or another is essentially
energy. The connection however that seems to be lost is the fact that thoughts
are also energy. Every thought that you have, however big or small is energy.
It transmits into the universe as energy, and depending on the amount of energy
transmitted, the thought will impact the surrounding environment, or not.
In fact everything that
has ever been brought to fruition (magically or otherwise) has started with a
thought. Herein lies a very definitive link, which could only make you think …
For the sake of more
clarity on this issue, in essence Ritual Magic is a manipulation and empowerment of thoughts
to a desired result, which in itself remains a scientifically measurable
Of course scientists will
argue it to be unscientific as it can not be reproduced exactly (one of the
requirements for any experiment / action to be considered scientific). What
science tends to forget however is that even though it may be nearly
impossible to reproduce an exact thought, reproducing the energy created by the
thought is not (if this was measured during the original thought process).
So considering that
thoughts have the power to create (everything). By deduction it could also be
considered that when a thought is thought a simple energetic process is started
which will eventually be cancelled / balanced out by another thought/s, or it
will come to fruition in some form or another depending on other universal
influences. Expanding on this, a more energetic thought carries more mass and
therefore has a larger chance of coming to fruition.
The question then is how
to create a more energetic thought…
Fortunately this is by no
means difficult. In fact there are many ways in which to do so, including :
Any thought that emanates intense emotion, in any form or shape carries a
significantly higher energy level.
A fairly commonly accepted method of creating belief (however fake this may be).
And with belief comes higher energy levels and more likely fruition.
This is a less commonly accepted or practiced method of creating belief.
Whilst being more powerful, as it tends to employ the senses more, and
therefore the emotional attachment, it remains merely a potent form of
affirmation. If this method is unclear an example of this would be.
Reiki there is a specific cleansing and self healing process which is
undertaken by most practitioners of this philosophy, which specifically include
some physical actions performed on the body and with the body in order to
manifest (demonstrate / simulate) these conditions (spiritual / psychological
cleanliness as well as health of the body) " also noted by the Oxford
dictionary as - sign or embodiment of something -
Considering all of the
above there is what appears to be an unfortunate problem, which may to a large
degree be the cause for scientific rejection of most forms of magic, and that
is, the fact that it is so difficult to construct a thought with exacting
results, and as such this may well be the cause of this being considered
unscientific. This said there remains a fairly accurate method of energetic
thought creation and this is by employing various forms of :
Ritual magic employs all the techniques, accepted and not, to create the most
energetic and focussed thought possible. Essentially grabbing the mind through
affirmation chanting, and repetition. Added to this specific mechanical actions
which employ the senses, in combination with visualization techniques which
increase emotional output. This method also applies and heavily relies on
belief in externalized power to aid in fruition. (of course remembering that
the practitioner’s belief is key here to charging the thought.) Last but not
the least, focussing of the thought, essentially avoiding haphazard thinking,
which would act to destroy the energetic strength of the thought. And
surprising for most, whilst the results may not always be instantaneous,
depending on the ability and skill of the practitioner, these always come to
fruition, in one way or another.
A friendly warning
though, remember that the point of a ritual / incantation is to pursue a
specific intent, so do not get too caught up in the ritual, as this may just
end up loosing the intent. Also ritual magic is a very powerful form of magic
and as such should be treated with respect, as improper application of this,
whilst always getting results, may not get the intended results. It therefore
remains important that ritual design reflect intent as close as possible.
In conclusion, whilst
science has clearly not yet completely understood magic, it should be
considered that any form of affirmation, and specifically including forms of
magical practice and ritual magic, is a purposeful manipulation of the energy
of thoughts, which in itself is just science without instruments.
